VES Nominates Assassin's Creed For Annual Awards

Officials from the Visual Effects Society (VES) have revealed the nominees for the 5th Annual VES Awards, which include two separate nominations for Ubisoft's upcoming PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 stealth action title, Assassin's Creed.
Officials from the Visual Effects Society (VES) have revealed the organization of visual effects professionals' nominees for the 5th Annual VES Awards, which include 21 separate categories across film, television, commercials, music videos, and video games. Among the video games recognized by VES were the trailer for Ubisoft's upcoming Assassin's Creed that was shown during Microsoft's X06 event, as well as the PlayStation 3 version of Electronic Arts' Fight Night Round 3, both of which are up for the award for Outstanding Real Time Visuals in a Video Game. In addition, Assassin's Creed's E3 trailer is up for the award for Outstanding Pre-Rendered Visuals in a Video Game, alongside the E3 trailer for Hellgate: London and a CG sequence from Warhammer Fantasy. The nominees were chosen by a panel of more than 80 visual effects professionals, all VES members, who viewed hundreds of entry submissions at the screening facilities of FotoKem in Burbank. VES will hold its annual VES Show and Tell Event 2007 on January 13, during which VES nominees will be able to demonstrate what went into the creation of their submitted works. Winners will be announced at the 5th Annual VES Awards event on February 11 at the Kodak Grand Ballroom in Hollywood. Academy Award-winning visual effects pioneer Dennis Muren is also scheduled to be bestowed with the VES Lifetime Achievement Award. A complete list of all of the nominees up for awards is available on the VES Awards website. “This year we had 30% more submissions than last year, and from seven different countries,” commented VES executive director Eric Roth. “Along with this growth, we've also seen our awards show grow in industry stature. It is very gratifying to know that companies all over the world want to get one of our trophies. Clearly, they see the value in getting VES recognition.”
