Doom 3 blasted its way to the top of the UK sales chart in its first week of release, becoming the fifth-fastest selling PC game of all time in the country. More importantly for Activision, it marks the company’s sixth consecutive week at the number-one spot, thanks to the strong performance of Spider-Man 2. For the month of July, Activision was the market leader in the UK -- the first time in the company’s history that's happened. With Doom 3’s release, it's possible the company will remain on top in August. Elsewhere in the chart, there was little movement. Sales Athens 2004 were bolstered by the Summer Olympics, nudging the game up a few spots on the chart. The Xbox excusive, The Chronicles of Riddick, entered at number five –- again proving how difficult it is for even a AAA Xbox title to chart highly in the UK.
