There has been yet another change at the top in the UK game sales charts this week, with THQ’s latest WWE SmackDown! game for the PS2 entering straight in at number one – a typically strong entry for a franchise that can usually expect to debut within the top three each year. Elsewhere in the chart, Pro Evolution Soccer 5 appears to be losing its battle to outsell FIFA 06 for the first time, with the latter outranking it for the first time since its release. The second highest new entry of the week is Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire at number six, which is likely to climb even higher when the movie is released in the UK on Friday 18th. Despite middling reviews and a receding interest in the franchise, The Matrix: Path of Neo has performed relatively well by entering at number nine. Outside of the top ten, Activision officials will certainly be disappointed with the performance of two of the company’s high profile new titles, with Neversoft’s GUN entering at fourteen and Lionhead Studio’s The Movies at twenty-eight. The only other new entry in the top forty has been Sony’s EyeToy: Play 3 at number thirty-four.
