With absolute inevitability, Electronic Arts' officially licensed game of the FIFA World Cup of soccer has entered straight in at number one in the UK game sale charts, where it is likely to remain for much of the rest of the summer.
Soccer management title
Football Manager 2006 (aka
Worldwide Soccer Manager 2006) has also risen up the chart as a result of growing excitement over the tournament, while more esoteric titles such as
Animal Crossing: Wild World and
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion continue to perform well.
The second highest entry in the charts is massively multiplayer online game
Guild Wars: Factions, which shows further acceptance for the genre in the more console-oriented UK market.
The only other new entries in the top forty are at the very bottom of the chart, with British comic book property
Rogue Trooper debuting at number thirty-eight,
Tetris DS (a full price title in the UK) entering at number thirty-nine and
Trauma Centre: Under the Knife at number forty.
