Despite enjoying the second highest Nintendo DS launch ever in the UK, just behind launch title
Super Mario 64 DS,
New Super Mario Bros has failed to hit the top spot in its British debut, losing out to Rockstar's newly PS2-released
GTA: Liberty City Stories.
NSMB becomes one of four exclusive Nintendo DS games in the top ten for the week ending July 1st, though, with the DS version of
Over Hedge also accounting for 40 percent of that title’s sales.
Other movement in the chart has been limited, although sales for soccer related titles can already be seen to be slipping away, following the England team’s exit from the World Cup. The only existing title in the top ten to increase in sales is
Over the Hedge, following the opening of the movie in the UK.
Despite poor reviews, flight simulator
Over G Fighters is the highest new entry outside the top ten, likely as a result of customer interest in any Xbox 360 exclusive titles, which have been a little slow to arrive in recent months. The only other new entry in the top forty is PC only title
Titan Quest at number twenty-five.
