UK Charts: Total Victory For Empire: Total War

Sega’s Empire: Total War has become the first PC title to hit the number one spot in the UK since October 2007, outselling Killzone 2 and new multiplatform entry Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X.
Sega and Creative Assembly’s Empire: Total War has become the first PC title to hit the number one spot in the UK charts since Football Manager 2008 (also published by Sega) in October 2007. The epic historical war game topped both the individual and all-platform charts, becoming the fastest-selling entry in the series so far. Set during the 18th century, the game sold almost twice as much as the debuts of previous entries Medieval II: Total War and Rome: Total War and is the first so far to reach the number one spot. Sales of Killzone 2 fell by 58 percent in the game’s second week, although it was still only 1,600 units behind Empire: Total War. Wii Fit remained at number three with a 37 percent boost in sales. The other new entry in the top ten was Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X. The Xbox 360 version of Ubisoft's combat flight simulator debuted at number six in the individual formats chart, with the PlayStation 3 version right behind at number seven. The only other new entry in the top 40 was Mario Power Tennis at number 15 -– the second New Play Control! title to be released for the Wii in Europe. The original GameCube version of the game also debuted at number 15 in March 2005. In the separate all-platforms chart, which combines all SKUs of a game into a single chart position, the line-up of the top three was identical, with Empire: Total War at number one, followed by Killzone 2 and Wii Fit. Overall, in the top 40 chart by individual platforms, there are 10 titles each on the Xbox 360 and Nintendo DS, eight each on the Wii and PlayStation 3, three on the PC, one on the PlayStation 2 and none on the PSP.
