Star Wars: The Force Unleashed has not only dominated the sales chart this week, but become the fastest-selling Star Wars game ever in the UK. Although it launched across all major consoles, the Xbox 360 version accounted for 48 percent of all sales, taking the number one spot in the individual format charts.
Force Unleashed became the tenth fastest-selling game for the Xbox 360 as well as the PlayStation 3; the latter took 30 percent of sales at number two. The Wii version accounted for just 15 percent of sales, and the PlayStation 2 version, at number 17, took just 4 percent. The Nintendo DS and PSP versions did not chart in the top 40.
The other major new release of the week was massively multiplayer online game
Warhammer Online, based on the popular table top role-playing game from British firm Games Workshop. The game entered at number five in the charts, ahead of EA’s other PC exclusive title this week -
Crysis: Warhead at number 16.
All the other new entries in the top 40 this week are in fact re-entries, with
Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock on Wii reappearing at number 13 thanks to new retailer promotions.
New Super Mario Bros. on DS also re-enters at number 37 and
Call of Duty 4 on PS3 at number 38.
Overall in the top 40, there are 12 titles for the Wii, 11 for the Nintendo DS, six for the PlayStation 3, five for the Xbox 360, four for the PC, two for the PlayStation 2 and none for the PSP.
