Nintendo’s Wii Fit has returned to the top of the UK charts for the first time since mid-February, as the hardware bundle continues to play the role of default UK number one -- in the absence of any other major new releases. As combined sales of Resident Evil 5 fell by 51 percent, Wii Fit bounced back in the individual platform charts. Overall, though, there were no genuine new entries in the top 10, but Wii Play and Mario Kart Wii both saw a significant boost in sales. Retail promotions for Capcom’s Street Fighter IV saw an overall increase in sales of 7 percent. The PlayStation 3 version rose two places to number 10 and the Xbox 360 version climbed six places to number 12. The highest new entry of the week was Midway and Ubisoft’s Wheelman, with the Xbox 360 version debuting at number 18 and the PS3 version coming in at number 29. In another success for console based strategy games EA’s Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 – Ultimate Edition entered the charts at number 28. Meanwhile, Sony’s Resistance: Retribution became the first PSP title in the top 40 for several months at number 39. With few high profile new releases this week, a number of older titles re-entered the charts, such as PS3 exclusive LittleBigPlanet at number 30, Take-Two’s Carnival Funfair Games for Wii at number 32, EA’s Need for Speed: ProStreet for Xbox 360 at number 38, and Activision’s Call of Duty: World at War on PS3 at number 40. In the separate all platforms chart, which combines all SKUs of a game into a single chart position, Resident Evil 5 hung on to the number one spot, with Wii Fit a non-mover at number two and Street Fighter IV moving up four places to number three. Overall, in the top 40 chart by individual platforms, there are 12 titles for Xbox 360, 10 for PlayStation 3, eight each for Wii and Nintendo DS, and one each for PC and PSP.
