UK Charts: Fallout 3 Not Fit For The Top Spot

Bethesda’s Fallout 3 has been pipped at the post by Nintendo’s Wii Fit in the latest UK sales charts. Although the post apocalyptic role-player topped the combined format charts, Bethesda’s first self-published title in the UK top 40 coincided with increased stock availability for Wii hardware and software. Wii Fit enjoyed its third best week of sales ever in the UK, up by 126 percent on the previous week. This is the second time the hardware bundle has returned to the top of the chart since its release in April, and its seventh non-consecutive week at number one. Overall sales of Fallout 3 have already eclipsed total sales of all the other previous games in the series combined in the UK. The Xbox 360 saw the lion’s share of sales, outselling the launch of the 360 version of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion by 57 percent. Overall, 55 percent of sales went to the 360, with 28 percent on the PlayStation 3 (at number five) and 17 percent on the PC (at number 12). Sales of Fable II at number three fell by 51 percent in the game’s second week, but sales of FIFA 09 were up on the 360 and PS3. As well as Wii Fit, stock replenishments for Mario Kart Wii saw the game move up four places to number four, while the appearance of Wii Play at number eight suggests extra stock for Wii consoles as well. After the two console versions of Fallout 3, the new PlayStation 2 edition of Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 was the next highest new entry at number 10. Apart from Fallout 3, the highest new entry outside of the top 10 was EA’s Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 on PC at number 15. Despite launching at the same time as the movie's UK debut, Activision’s Quantum of Solace entered that charts at a somewhat low position, with the PS3 version at number 18 and the 360 version at 19. Overall sales of the game saw the title enter at number seven in the combined format charts. Further down the charts there was a quartet of new Nintendo DS entries, with Midway’s More Touchmaster at number 36, Disney’s High School Musical 3: Senior Year at number 37, re-entry More Brain Training from Dr Kawashima (aka Brain Age 2) from Nintendo at number 38 and Imagine: Teacher from Ubisoft at number 40.
