Ubisoft's Just Dance Approaches 3 Million Mark

Ubisoft says its Wii title Just Dance -- already the fastest-selling third party game for the system -- is just about to pass 3 million units sold worldwide, an accomplishment it plans to celebrate with a choreography contest.
Ubisoft says its Wii title Just Dance is just about to pass 3 million units sold worldwide, an accomplishment it plans to celebrate with a choreography contest. The title nears this latest milestone just a little over a month after it became the fastest-selling third party Wii title with 2 million units sold worldwide since its November 2009 launch. The game uses licensed music to which Wii players follow on-screen dance moves using the motion-sensing Wii Remote. Just Dance, developed by Ubisoft Paris, allows up to four players to play at the same time. Although it launched in mid-November in the U.S., the game didn't make NPD's monthly top 10 list until January 2010 when it sold 192,000 units. The game sold even more in February, NPD reported, with 275,000 units sold. It reached 2 million units in total by March 31. Ubisoft will now collect gameplay videos of fan-made choreography, and winners from France, the U.S. and the UK will have their choreography featured in the next installment of the game. "All around the world, millions of players have been seduced by the simple gameplay and the fun and engaging track list of Just Dance," says the company in a statement. "By taking part in the contest, those fans will have the opportunity to have millions of players dancing on their choreography."
