Among the many awards given by the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences at the D.I.C.E. Summit on Feburary 1st will be the AIAS Hall of Fame award, which will be presented to Trip Hawkins. Hawkins particularly made his name as the co-founder Electronic Arts, shepherding it from its inception to rise as a major industry player in the 1990s, but is also known as the creator of 3D0's hardware and software offerings. Hawkins' induction is as interesting for what he isn't as what he is: previous nominees have all been noted game designers with specific, seminal titles to their credit. Though Hawkins joins past luminaries such as Yu Suzuki, Will Wright, John Carmack, Hironobu Sakaguchi, Sid Meier, and Shigeru Miyamoto, his contribution to the industry has been much more business-oriented than creative. Still, Hawkins' influence is as unmistakable in its way as that of any previous inductee, and he commented on this honor: "It is an incredible honor to be recognized by my distinguished peers in the industry... I love this industry and am not finished pushing its boundaries." The AIAS award ceremony will be held at the Green Valley Ranch Resort in Las Vegas this week.
