Software portability developer TransGaming will offer BioWare's
Jade Empire Special Edition for Mac, the company said this morning, making it available via its
recently-launched GameTree Online digital distribution portal.
TransGaming used its proprietary Cider Portability Engine to create the Mac version of the title, which the company says acts as a "wrapper" around the game software so that it can run on Intel-based Macs. BioWare and TransGaming will share revenues related to the game's sales.
The company's previously used Cider to enable
EVE Online and
Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords on Mac, among others, and
will do the same for
Spore.
Jade Empire was first released for Xbox in 2005, with a Windows PC version launching in 2006. The Special Edition adds graphical upgrades, resolution enhancements and extra content.
Says TransGaming president and CEO Vikas Gupta, "The addition of
Jade Empire Special Edition to GameTree Online illustrates the commitment TransGaming and leading developers like BioWare have in serving the Mac gaming community with high quality games."
