Although it's historically been known primarily for Mac wrappers of PC games and other software portability solutions, TransGaming is entering game development with the launch of a new studio. The Toronto-based company's first title, in partnership with Dutch publisher Foreign Music Games, will be a music game for Wii called Armin van Buuren – In the Mix, themed around the popular Dutch trance music artist and DJ. Transgaming says that having a studio will let it stretch its technical wings and form relationships with more publishers. "This is an exciting time for TransGaming as we expand the company to embrace new strategic opportunities that will provide new revenue streams from core game development projects," says president and CEO Vikas Gupta. Van Buuren himself, number one in the DJ Top 100 for the past two years straight, is partnering with both companies for the project. "As a Dutch publisher, we are extremely proud of the fact that it is possible for us to publish this great game in co-operation with one of the biggest music icons of this moment,” says Foreign Media Games' managing director Michel van Elmpt. After the success of rock music games last year, the rhythm genre is expanding this year into the DJ and dance music arena, with two products -- Activision's DJ Hero and Genius Products' Scratch: Ultimate DJ currently enjoying a highly-publicized legal rivalry as they race one another to market. "We are confident that Armin van Buuren - In the Mix will propel the highly popular music gaming genre to new heights with its innovative game play experience that embodies the creativity, energy and artistry of the ultimate DJ," enthuses Gupta.
