THQ, Motorola In Pact To Develop Wireless Games

THQ and Motorola have announced an agreement to develop games for Motorola's current and next-generation J2ME-enabled phones.
The first four games announced are WWF Mobile Madness, Tetris, Intellivision's AstroSmash and MotoGP. The games will debut in North America in mid-January with worldwide distribution to follow throughout the year. "Motorola is investing heavily in mobile gaming," said Juan Montes, vice president of Entertainment Solutions for Motorola's Personal Communications Sector. "Motorola is experiencing tremendous success with Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, a mobile game we have launched in Europe, Asia and Latin America. Our experience in mobile gaming shows that consumers value entertainment applications for Motorola wireless phones, and we see games as another powerful way to capture that excitement." "According to a recent ARC Group study, mobile gaming is currently the third most popular mobile entertainment application behind information services and music, with 42.9 million wireless game players worldwide," stated Doug Dyer, General Manager, THQ Wireless. The THQ games being launched for Motorola's handsets later this month will be available for download at http://www.nextel.com/idenupdate.
