THQ subsidiary THQ Wireless has launched the website Madtap.com
as a multi-country portal enabling cell phone users to download Java games. The portal has been designed to handle multi-country billing options, allowing it to cater to customers in the US and across Europe.
Consumers order the games by sending an SMS text message and then using a download link that is sent to them via WAP Push technology. The price of the game is then added to their monthly cell phone bill. Existing games on the site so far include Worms and WWE titles and the company intends to add a range of additional content, including logos, ring tones, multimedia messaging services and screensavers in the near future.
