Ziff Davis Media has announced the results of a consumer study, conducted by comScore among users of consumer-focused 1UP Network, highlighting game consumer buying trends and interests. The study, which encompassed a predominantly male audience with an average age of 24, found correlations between gaming interest and other major technology purchases, with over 80 percent owning a mobile phone, DVD player, and desktop computer, while 50 percent own a digital camera, MP3 player (without video),Wi-Fi products, PC storage/hard drive or flat panel PC monitor. The study's key findings also showed that gamers are forward-looking in their technology purchases, with about one-third considering a purchase in the next six months of flat panel, plasma or LCD TVs, HDTVs and high end audio systems and another 25 percent considering purchasing digital camcorders and laptop or notebook computers. 93 percent of the gamers surveyed reported feeling enthusiastic about and comfortable with new technology and consumer electronics, and 76 percent say their friends would describe them as being "into the latest technology." Additionally, 61 percent responded that they are the first among their friends to buy new technology gadgets. Rey Ledda, VP of marketing, events, and research, stated, "In a community where the value of word-of-mouth reigns supreme, the gaming demographic is becoming increasingly recognized as significant consumers and influencers by retailers, not just for their large investments in gaming- related products, but general products as well."
