Officials from Stardock Entertainment and eGames Cinemaware have announced an agreement that will see a number of Cinemaware games including Defender of the Crown: Heroes Live Forever
coming to Stardock's TotalGaming digital distribution service.
The new deal marks the latest partnership between the two following the release of Cinemaware's Space Rangers 2: Rise of the Dominators
on TotalGaming last November.
While Defender of the Crown: Heroes Live Forever
is the first game released under the new agreement -- and indeed is already available -- more Cinemaware games including Port Royale II, Tortuga, Patrician III
and the Neighbors From Hell Bundle
will be added regularly to the service over the following weeks.
TotalGaming.net is a division of Galactic Civilizations
creator Stardock Entertainment, which recently established a new worldwide publishing arm, focusing on "supporting and assisting the growth of independently developed software titles."
The TotalGaming.net business model does not rely on Digital Rights Management (DRM) but is closer to that used by Apple’s iTunes. The technology, called Secure Software Delivery (SSD), was developed and used for Stardock's corporate software products for several years. Once the game is downloaded, gamers can burn their titles to CD, allowing customers to keep the games indefinitely.
“We’re excited to bring more great Cinemaware games to TotalGaming.net this year,” said Brian Clair, Director of Games Publishing for Stardock Entertainment. “TotalGaming.net will see remarkable growth this year with a dramatic increase in the size of our product catalog, thanks to tremendous partners like eGames.”
