Stagnant Videogame Market Sales in Japan for 2001

Sales in Japan’s videogame market remained virtually unchanged at 468.1 billion yen ($3.52 billion) despite the success of Sony’s Playstation 2 according to Enterbrain, Inc. Sales of videogame software and hardware in 2000 totaled 467.7 billio
Enterbrain reported that hardware sales rose to 196.1 billion yen last year from 174.2 billion yen in 2000, however, sales of software declined 7.3 percent to 271.9 billion. Enterbrain described 2001 as a year of transition, pointing to the debut of Nintendo’s Game Boy Advance and GameCube as well as the exit of Sega’s Dreamcast.
