Yoichi Wada, Square's current president, will run the new company.
Square's US division in Los Angeles will continue to operate, using the moniker Square Enix USA, Inc. It will localize, market and publish Square Enix products under the leadership of Jun Iwasaki, the newly named president and CEO of Square Enix USA. In April, Enix will close its U.S. marketing unit (Enix America, based in Seattle, WA), and will relocate those operations to Square Enix USA.
The timing of the merger revolves around the dissolution of Square EA (an joint venture company for localizing and distributing Square's games in the US) and EA Square (a joint venture company for localizing and distributing EA games in Japan). These joint ventures formed in 1998 between Electronic Arts and Square, and are set to end on March 31. Neither company opted to renew the partnership.
