Representatives from developer Sports Interactive and publisher Eidos Interactive have announced that soccer management game Championship Manager: Season 03/04 will be the last game on which the two companies will work together. In a relatively amicable split, described by Sports Interactive’s MD Miles Jacobson as equivalent to “musical differences”, Eidos will retain the Championship Manager brand while Sports Interactive will keep the player database and source code. The Championship Manager games have sold over 4 million copies over the years and the last game was the UK’s fastest selling PC game ever – as well as being a significant contributor to Eidos’ preliminary finical results, which were also published today.
