Cable network channel Spike TV announced the nominees and categories for its sixth annual Video Game Awards (VGA), airing December 14th, filmed live from Sony Picture Studios in Culver City, CA. Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto IV garnered nine nominations, while Media Molecule's LittleBigPlanet, Fallout 3, and Konami's Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots picked up seven nominations each. Epic Games' Gears of War 2, released a week ago, enjoyed four nominations. All five titles are up for Spike's "Game of the Year" award. Developers Media Molecule, Rockstar North, Harmonix (Rock Band 2), and Bethesda Game Studios have all been nominated for the show's "Studio of the Year" award." The VGA's "The Best Independent Game Fueled by Dew" nominees are 2D Boy's World of Goo, Q-Games' PixelJunk Eden, Number None's Braid, and Valve's Audiosurf. Other highlights scheduled for the show include premiere footage for upcoming releases, a performance by hip-hop artist 50 Cent, and the honoring of game designer Will Wright with a Gamer God Award.
