Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios and developer Quantic Dream (Omikron, Indigo Prophecy) have announced that the two have partnered to deliver a PlayStation 3 title that the two say will "redefine cinematic realtime entertainment." Though the two have not yet provided further details, the studio and publisher say the game will set "a new benchmark in delivering emotionally compelling experiences to gamers.” Quantic Dream's first appearance on the PlayStation 3 was via an initial 'digital actor' tech demo known as Heavy Rain (pictured), since subtitled The Origami Killer. Quantic Dream was found in 1997, and has since created 3D adventure Omikron (The Nomad Soul) for PC and Dreamcast, and, more recently, multiplatform adventure Indigo Prophecy (Fahrenheit), the subject of a Gamasutra postmortem in June of last year. SCE Worldwide Studios VP Michael Denny said of the collaboration that the forthcoming title will "push the gaming experience to realize a new level of interactivity and, in particular, to engage players at an emotional level never experienced before," and promised more details in the coming months. Said Quantic Dream founder and CEO David Cage, "We always believed that 'next generation' meant more meaningful content based on players’ emotional involvement. To us, PS3 is the only platform that can truly deliver on this promise, and SCE WWS is a group that is both inspiring and pleasant to work with."
