Sony Unveils New PS2-Based TV Tuner

Sony announced a new PS2-based home electronics device today, the "PSX", which incorporates TV tuner, DVD recorder, hard-drive, satellite tuner and PS2 in one device.
The PSX is scheduled to launch in Japan this year, and it will roll out in Europe and the United States in early 2004. Pricing was not revealed. Many in the audience had hoped that Sony would also shed some light on the PS2's successor during the announcement, but the analysts left disappointed. The only information the company would disclose was a deadline for the so-called "PS3" announcement: this Fall. Sony President and COO Kunitake Ando said simply, "We hope to come up with comprehensive details before speculation gets out of hand. We would like to announce final plans before October."
