The University of Wisconsin Madison has filed a suit against both Sony and Toshiba, claiming that technology used in the manufacture of the PS2’s ‘Emotion Engine’ infringes one of its patents.
The patent is thought to involve only the manufacturing process and not the Emotion Engine chip itself – but could still cause considerable problems with production of new PS2 units if the suit is successful.
