Sony has announced hardware sales figures for its holiday period running from post-Thanksgiving 'Black Friday' to the end of the year, claiming combined sales of 3.9 million, including 1.2 million units of PlayStation 3. Sony's figures run from November 23, 2007 to December 31, 2007. In addition to the 1.2 million PS3s, Sony said it sold 1.4 million PSP units and 1.3 PlayStation 2 units. Sony claims the upcoming PSP releases of God of War and Final Fantasy: Crisis Core, as well as further success of Buzz and SingStar will ensure a strong year for both platforms. SCEA president and CEO Jack Tretton said the holiday sales were proof that the PlayStation brand "ended the year in a very strong position and clearly indicates more positive momentum going into 2008. We are particularly pleased to have sold through 1.2 million units of PS3 during the holiday selling season." He concluded, "The strong PS3 sales also further establish Blu-ray's dominant position as the high-definition medium of choice for games and movies. Consumers are clearly responding to the expanding multimedia capabilities and a great line-up of over 200 games."
