Sony Computer Entertainment head Ken Kutaragi has announced that the PlayStation 3 will not feature the ability to act as a home network router.
Speaking with Japanese publication Nikkei Electronics, in remarks reported by website GamesIndustry.biz, Kutaragi has admitted that the use of the console's three Gigabit Ethernet ports as a home router would have made the console in general too expensive to manufacture.
[UPDATE: 07/13/05 - 10.37am] According to online reports, Sony considered including router functionality as part of the specifications, but this function was dropped at an earlier stage of development than E3, as described in the original Nikkei Electronics report.
