Ken Kutaragi, the president of Sony Computer Entertainment and widely credited as the father of the Playstation, has been promoted at Sony to executive deputy president of the entire corporation.
Kutaragi will still be in charge of the Playstation business at Sony, and adds to his responsibilities the Broadband Network Co., a new subsidiary of Sony which is developing for next-generation DVD technology based on blue lasers. It has been rumored that the Playstation 3 will use this technology, which allows much more data to be stored on a disc.
