Representatives from Sony have announced plans for the company to invest $325 million into the production of CELL processor technology, developed through a partnership with IBM and Toshiba. The company’s investment will primarily be used to finance the manufacturing of the 65 nanometer chips in IBM's state-of-the-art 300mm semiconductor manufacturing facility. IBM expects to begin pilot production of CELL microprocessors and other chips for Sony at its facility in East Fishkill, New York during the first half of 2005. A variant of the CELL processor is expected to power Sony's PlayStation 3 console. Source: Polygon
