Citing better production efficiencies in its Japanese factories, Sony reduced the retail price of the PlayStation 2 in Europe and Australia by over 25%, to $293.
The company did not indicate whether prices elsewhere in the world would be reduced in the near future. Some analysts predict Sony will reduce the PS2 price in the U.S. prior to the November launch of the Gamecube and Xbox in that country, but Sony this week flatly denied that it will cut U.S. prices.
