Officials from Sony Computer Entertainment Japan (SCEJ) have confirmed recent reports that the PlayStation 3 is to receive its first wave of budget priced re-releases. At the same time, a “Satin Silver” version of the console has been unveiled for the first time. As detailed yesterday the “PlayStation 3 the Best” range will launch with five titles: Resistance: Fall of Man, FolkSoul (Folklore in U.S.), Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Gundam: Target in Sight and Ridge Racer 7. They will go on sale on March 19th at a price of ¥3,800 ($36) each. SCEJ officials also unveiled a metallic silver version of the existing 40GB hard drive model of the console, to debut on March 6th at ¥39,980. A silver version of the DualShock 3 controller will also be released separately for ¥5,500, with the current promotional image of the console bundle picturing only a silver Sixaxis controller. There is no indication of if or when the Satin Silver console (or the already released Ceramic White version) will be released in the West, although Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) representatives yesterday indicated to Gamasutra that a line of budget software similar to Japan’s would likely be released in Europe in the future.
