Sony CEO of marketing Fumiya Takeno has confirmed, in an interview with Japanese newspaper Mainichi Shimbun, that the PlayStation Portable (PSP) will feature connectivity with the PS2 and PSX. The feature will see game saves being interchangeable between each of the three formats, with the portable and home versions being virtually identical - thanks to the similarity in hardware and the ease with which code can apparently be ported. However it is not clear whether compatible titles will be sold separately or as a twin-pack. The company is very keen to ensure there is not a high volume of direct PS2 ports and will be strictly vetting all software for the first six months of the PSP’s life, in an attempt to encourage as many new titles as possible.
