Nihon Keizai Shimbun has reported that Sony is planning to build PlayStation 2 chips into its new range of flat panel televisions, due out this autumn in Japan.
In a similar manner to the PSX, the chips will be used for various operations, such as screen navigation, image processing, and various video function–although Sony officials have made no mention of the chips being used to play actual games. Instead, their use is primarily to make television set production more economical, while also adding functionality.
