Officials from digital rights management (DRM) solution provider Softwrap announced that the company's DRM technology has been licensed by UK developer Kuju Entertainment (Battalion Wars) for the company's forthcoming PC train simulation, Rail Simulator. In addition, the company also announced that it has launched new DRM technology specifically for the the video game space as a means to facilitate the secure distribution and selling of add-on 3rd party content. The follow up to Kuju-developed Microsoft Train Simulator, Rail Simulator is scheduled to ship in the second quarter of 2007, and enables the use of steam, diesel, and electric trains on real routes in the UK and Germany. Rail Simulator will also ship with an integrated graphical toolkit and Softwrap's new add-on DRM technology for Kuju Entertainment and 3rd party companies to distribute the game's future add-ons and expansions digitally. Speaking to the potential for this new technology, Softwrap's Dylan Solomon commented, “Softwrap's new technology is a breakthrough in digital distribution of this type of content. It opens many new avenues for securely distributing add-on content, especially in the MMORPG and simulation markets.” He added: “This technology is straight forward to implement and a very exciting revenue generating feature both for publishers and Softwrap.”
