Belgian developer Softkinetic released an update to Iisu, its 3D gesture recognition software platform, which now includes interface improvements to the middleware's set-up, scene management, and calibration, as well as more support for more 3D depth sensing cameras and other enhancements. Launched in February 2008, Iisu recognizes gestures and movements in real-time, captured by a single 3D depth sensing camera. With the SDK, developers can create applications allowing the human body to become the natural input device, removing the need for any physical controllers. The new release of Iisu extends its 3D depth sensing cameras support to include Mesa Imaging’s Swiss Ranger SR-4000, 3DV Systems’ Zcam X, Canesta’s XR and RZ series, Prime Sense Primesensor 2, and others. The update also adds plug-and-play architecture, a TV gesture plug-in, an Iisu Socket Server, and support for Adobe Flash Bridge. "Less than a year after the first release of iisu, we provide a significant update that offers developers increased flexibility and advanced functionalities for developing next generation gesture-based applications,” says Softkinetic CTO Eric Krzesl. "The latest release of iisu will bring our technology into consumers’ homes, enabling them to control their entertainment systems simply by moving their hands."
