The latest shot in the price war between 3D animation tool companies was just fired, this time by Softimage.
Responding to a
price cut by Alias Wavefront in March, Softimage announced today that it has cut price of Softimage 3D by half to $1,495 -- making it about $500 less than Maya Complete and $100 less than Lightwave 7.5. Discreet's 3DS Max, once one of the lowest-priced 3D animation tools, now finds itself leaning toward the high end with its $3,495 price.
The new pricing for Softimage 3D 4.0 takes effect immediately.
