The awards were presented following several days of presentations and open play by the twelve finalists to both a jury of video game industry experts and festival attendees. Voting concluded on January 24th and the five winners were presented with their honors that evening at the Guerilla Gamemaker Award Ceremony.
Overall, the top Grand Jury Sparky Award went to innovative conversation-based adventure title
Façade by Procedural Arts, and the Audience Award was awarded to 2005 IGF Audience Award winner
N from Metanet Software. The Student Physics Award went to
Rumble Box by Insert Coin, and the Student Art Award was awarded to
Cloud by USC's Cloud Team. The new PopCap Casual Games Award went to
Odyssey by Liquid Dragon Studios. Winning teams were awarded multiple prizes, including game scholarships, PCs, and software.
"While this year’s finalists showcased games draw from a wide gamut of game types, they were all unified by an incredible level of creativity and professionalism," said Sam Roberts of Slamdance. "They truly represent the reason that the future of independent game design is bright."
