Game development student organization the UT Dallas Student Game Developers Association today announced the dates for the 2007 Computer Game Conference (CGC). The conference, now in its sixth year, allows attendees to meet and learn from Dallas-area game developers.
The event will take place from February 9-11, 2007, and will be free and open to the public. The CGC has been an annual gathering place for Dallas-area developers and students since its conception in 2001, as a function of UT Dallas’s School of Arts and Humanities. Regular speakers and attendees include developers from Dallas-area companies such as Gearbox Software and Ritual Entertainment.
The Conference regularly attracts 150 to 200 attendees and features 10 to 15 presentations on subjects ranging from collision detection to level design. Alongside the game development presentations, the conference will have several features throughout the weekend, including a LAN competition, the Game Show, and the first-annual CGC Showcase.
The
CGC Showcase is a new feature that challenges teams of amateur developers to produce a project in nine months worthy of showing to a panel of industry judges. By participating, students will learn about the challenges of game development, create work and contacts that will help them break into the industry, and compete for the title of Best In Show.
