SIGGRAPH organizers have announced new deadlines for technical papers for the forthcoming SIGGRAPH 2008 conference, as well as a new submission process it says will "dissolve borders between some traditional SIGGRAPH programs" and create a more interdisciplinary show. With a new general submission format, SIGGRAPH says submitters "will only need to describe their work once and propose that it be evaluated for presentation is several different formats. For example, a single submission can simultaneously be an installation, a performance, and a talk. In addition, the new process allows for late-breaking work to still be presented at SIGGRAPH." The new general submission guidelines will cover the following areas: * Complexity and Accessibility * Future History * Global Responsibility * Impact on Society * Professional Development and Education * SIGGRAPH Core * Slow Art * Computer Animation Festival The guidelines also ask for submissions to be classified in one of the following categories: * Animation and Visual Effects * Best Practices, Case Studies, Tips & Tricks * Creative Expression * Crossing Boundaries * Evolving Concepts * Methods & Systems; Research Finally, organizers have given the following deadlines for submission: Technical Papers: Wednesday, 23 January 2008 General Submission: Wednesday, 30 January 2008 Student Volunteers Applications: Sunday, 24 February 2008 General Submission Materials upload: Wednesday, 27 February 2008 Late-Breaking Work: Wednesday, 7 May 2008 Said conference chair member Jacquelyn Martino, "In the past, one submission could easily be categorized across multiple formats. This could be confusing to the presenter and the audience. We want to close the gap of separation to highlight the greatest works, innovations, and techniques across the globe. The end result will be a more streamlined and improved experience for the audience." More information on the process can be found at SIGGRAPH's submission website.
