Sharp Launches Actius RD3D Stereoscopic Laptop In U.S.

Sharp’s 3d auto-stereoscopic laptop, first launched last month in Japan, is now available for immediate delivery in the U.S. In addition to a fast 2.8 GHz Pentium 4 processor and Nvidia Ge Force 4 440 Go graphics, the RD3D laptop features a revolutionary filter on the LCD display panel that can switch the laptop from 2D to 3D display modes. Previously, LCD displays have used lenticular lenses to direct separate images to the left and right eyes, and these filters significantly distorted 2D images enough to make such displays suitable only for 3D use. Sharp instead uses a parallax barrier that can be swiched on and off electronically, allowing the display to be used in a laptop.
