Sega Enters the Chinese Market

Sega is partnering with Merix Interactive Entertainment to produce and sell localized products in China.
Sega, along with other game software and hardware makers, have long avoided the Chinese market due to concerns about rampant software piracy. Sega will work with Merix to create Chinese language versions of its games and will sell them through Merix’s distribution network. The partnership hopes to ship thirteen PC titles and 1.5 million units by June of next year. “By next June, we hope to have 10 percent of the Chinese game software market, which is growing rapidly and now has an estimated 19 million users,” said a Sega spokesperson.
