Sega Announces New Dreamcast Price Cut, To $79.95

In an effort to clear out its remaining inventory by the end of the year, Sega said it will cut the Dreamcast's suggested retail price from $99.95 to $79.95.
The company has sold about 4 million units so far, but did not indicate how many units remained in its inventory. This is the third time Sega has reduced the price of the console since its introduction in 1999 for $199. In addition to the Dreamcast price cut, Sega is reducing the prices of the Dreamcast controller to $14.95, the visual memory unit to $9.95 and the Sonic Hardware Bundle to $99.95. "We are on track with our previously announced plans to sell through all the remaining Dreamcast units with our primary focus moving towards multi-platform game development," said Chris Gilbert, executive vice president sales, marketing and operations, Sega of America.
