Sega's North American and European divisions will continue their existing partnership with Marvel Entertainment to produce Iron Man 2
The title will ship for multiple platforms, its 2010 release coinciding with the opening of Marvel Studio's Iron Man 2 film. Sega also accompanied the original Iron Man movie, which debuted in May 2008, with video games for various home and handheld consoles.
Sega Studios San Francisco is currently working on Iron Man 2
, and is refining its game engine to provide what the company describes as "an entirely new and enhanced gameplay experience" in the upcoming sequel.
The 2008 Iron Man
games were developed by Secret Level (Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions) and Artificial Mind and Movement (Wii, PS2, PSP, DS, and PC). Most of the releases received average to below average review scores due to issues with frustrating controls and repetitive gameplay.
"We are thrilled to build on the success of the Iron Man phenomenon and work with Marvel and [movie distributor] Paramount on another epic project," says Sega of America president Simon Jeffery. "Sega and Marvel are collaborating closely to ensure we deliver an authentic Iron Man experience."
