AK Peters has announced that the second edition of the book
Real-Time Rendering, written by Eric Haines
and Tomas Moller, will be published this summer. Like the first edition, the book focuses on algorithms and theory, targeting both PC and console developers. The book has been expanded by more than 70% over the first edition, and includes over 800 references.
A new chapter discusses curved surfaces, including spline curves and surfaces, subdivision surfaces, N-patches, and other representations. Another chapter covers vertex and pixel shaders, discussing colorimetry, BRDFs, shading languages, reflections, shadows, radiosity, and ray tracing. There are also new chapters on non-photorealistic and image-based rendering algorithms. All previous chapters have been revised and updated, as well.
The Second Edition will be available in June/July 2002, at a price of $59. Information on the book, as well as some early sample chapters, can be found at
