Sony Computer Entertainment America has announced plans for a limited-edition Playstation 2 bundle; the new "Ceramic White" console will come with SingStar Pop, the second game in the SingStar franchise, plus two USB microphones. Available in November at a retail price of $149.99 ($159.99 in Canada), SCEA hopes the family-friendly bundle will broaden the PS2's already-mighty North American install base, which has seen 44 million of 117 total installations to date. SingStar Pop lets players karaoke along to songs from artists like Alicia Keys, U2, Rihanna, Ashlee Simpson, The All-American Rejects and The Clash, and SCEA's aiming to use the franchise's broad, socially-oriented appeal to turn a new crop of gamers on to the PS2 in time for the holiday season, in which SCEA says it expects to sell 10 million more units by March of 2008. "With our expansive library of titles for PlayStation, led by social gaming experiences such as SingStar and Buzz! we have an incredible offering for first-time gaming families," said Jack Tretton, SCEA president and CEO.
