Scarcity Of Xbox, Gamecube Make PS2 The Top Seller So Far

Recent sales numbers from NPD point to the biggest console winner so far this holiday season: the Playstation 2.
Overcoming aggressive marketing from Microsoft and the loyal Nintendo fan base, Sony has kept ahead of the two newest consoles by simply delivering more units to retailers. According sales figures from NPD and further analysis by Credit Suisse First Boston, 1.4 million PS2 units were sold in the U.S. through December 8. Coming in second place was the Xbox, which moved 934,000 units. Nintendo brought up the rear, with 615,000 GameCubes sold. Credit Suisse First Boston reported that software sales are also tracking well ahead of last year. In particular, EA recorded $247 million in sales so far in Q4, which is 37 percent better than last year during the same period.
