Gamasutra's weekly column, "Saling The World", covers the top five sellers for every available platform in the United States, Japan, and Europe, providing an important update of sales patterns worldwide. This week's charts, with data taken from December 17th, 2009, find Final Fantasy XIII topping sales across all platforms in Japan, as Wii Fit Plus and Spirit Tracks lead stateside results. Data for "Saling The World" comes courtesy of the public sales information on Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, and Amazon.co.jp, with sales split out for each platform and territory, and pre-orders disregarded. This results in a true sense of what games are selling worldwide on the real-time updated service, as follows: Nintendo Wii North America: 1. Wii Fit Plus with Balance Board (Nintendo), 2. New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Nintendo), 3. Wii Sports Resort (Nintendo), 4. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games (Sega), 5. Wii Play (Nintendo). Japan: 1. New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Nintendo), 2. Wii Fit Plus with Balance Board (Nintendo), 3. Wii Sports Resort (Nintendo), 4. Taiko no Tatsujin Wii Dodoon to 2 Daime! (Namco), 5. PokePark Wii: Pikachu no Daibouken (Nintendo). UK: 1. Mario Kart Wii (Nintendo). New Super Mario Bros. takes second place in domestic Wii software sales this week after dropping to fourth last week. Wii Fit Plus remains on top, as Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games climbs up past Wii Play. In Japan, Namco's Tales of Graces falls to sixth place after an impressive debut last week, while Taiko no Tatsujin Wii Dodoon to 2 Daime! and PokePark Wii take its place in the top five. Forza Motorsport 3 (Microsoft). Namco Bandai's one-on-one fighter Tekken 6 returns to the North American Xbox 360 charts this week, thanks to a recent "Deal of the Day" discount in price at Amazon. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Assassin's Creed II finish as the region's biggest sellers for the third week in a row. Modern Warfare 2 also claims chart-topping sales in Japan, where the original Modern Warfare remains a popular pick as well. 5pb's visual novel Steins;Gate overtakes Assassin's Creed II in today's Japanese results, as Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition finishes fourth. Assassin's Creed II edges past Modern Warfare 2 and Uncharted 2 to take second place, while Madden NFL 10 finishes fifth. Final Fantasy XIII leads sales across all platforms in Japan in its debut week, and pushes Modern Warfare 2 out of the PS3's top chart spot. The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks takes another sales victory in the United States after a successful debut last week. Scribblenauts continues to outsell all other DS titles at Amazon, as Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story moves up to third place in the regional rankings. Nintendo's Tomodachi Collection keeps the top spot in Japan, as Level 5's Layton Kyouju to Majin no Fue falls behind Pocket Monsters: Soul Silver in weekly sales numbers. In Japan, Phantasy Star Portable 2 overtakes Kidou Senshi Gundam: Gundam vs. Gundam NEXT PLUS to claim first place, while Queen's Blade: Spiral Chaos finishes its debut week at third.
