Officials from Saga Games and Silverlode Interactive have announced that the studios have “amicably split” from Wahoo Studios (Cloning Clyde, Outpost Kaloki X), and will now “focus exclusively” on the development of the upcoming multiplayer online real-time strategy game Saga. Saga, which is expected to ship this Fall, is currently in a beta, and has, according to Saga Games, attracted more than 15,000 users worldwide since the beta test began in early July. When released, the game will have no monthly subscription fee, instead deriving revenue through purchases of “low-priced booster packs” that players can use to “enhance their armies with unique troops and spells.” These items can also be traded between players using Saga's in-game marketplace, though a statement notes that “strategic supremacy remains the focus” in the game, and “players who do not buy booster packs are still competitive through superior tactics.” According to Saga Games, more than 5000 of the booster packs have been purchased thus far during the beta test, with some individual players having bought “well over 100.” Saga says, though, that beta account boosters will be partially wiped when the game officially launches to level the playing field, adding that beta players will have their credits already spent transferred to the final game. "We're thrilled with the response from fans and critics," said Saga Games producer Jason Faller. "It's been great to see players getting so wrapped up in buying booster packs, trading units and spells, and building their ultimate fantasy armies. and we're only in beta testing! We can't wait to unleash the final game - along with new units, spells and quests – and continue to support our vibrant community with new content on a regular basis."
