Today's Gamasutra round-up includes news of PAX organizers' comments regarding its role as a potential E3 replacement, a new Electronic Arts PSP compilation allegedly on the way, and Two Worlds delayed to give Reality Pump more development time, as well as the latest GameSetWatch posts, product news, and Gamasutra job postings. - Following the recent confirmation by the ESA regarding the downsizing and rescheduling of the annual E3 event for 2007, rumors and speculation quickly began to spread regarding which annual gaming conference would step up and replace the event, including CES, GSTAR, and the Penny Arcade Expo (PAX). Regarding these rumors, Robert Khoo, Penny Arcade's Director of Business Development commented: "PAX has clearly been growing in leaps and bounds. Even before the demise of the 'old' E3, this year's PAX was on track to attract more than 17,000 attendees with a big presence from Microsoft and Nintendo and scores of other big names in gaming.” He the added added that PAX organizers “don't want to be E3”, and that PAX is a “place that hardcore gamers, whether they work in the industry, or not, come to be completely immersed in game play, game music and game culture.” - Keeping with the ongoing trend of releasing compilations of older titles for the PSP, including the recently announced Sega Genesis Collection and upcoming Capcom Classics Collection Reloaded, a new report by consumer website GameSpot has indicted that a new product listing obtained from retailer GameStop has highlighted a possible similar collection in development by Electronic Arts. Reportedly targeted for release on October 3 for $29.99, the game, titled EA Replay, will feature 14 EA classics, including Syndicate, Ultima VII: The Black Gate, Road Rash I-III, Wing Commander, and Wing Commander: The Secret Missions. Other titles listed in the report include B.O.B., Budokan, Desert Strike, Jungle Strike, Haunting Starring Polterguy, Virtual Pinball, and Mutant League Football. While certainly plausible, EA has not confirmed the existence of the collection. - Topware Interactive announced that it has decided to push back the release of Reality Pump's (Earth 2160) Xbox 360 and PC role-playing game, Two Worlds until the fourth quarter of 2006 in order to make sure the game “will release in its full splendor.” Miroslaw Dymek, technical director of the Reality Pump development team commented that Two Worlds represents a “milestone” in Reality Pump's history, and that the game has been pushed back from its previously announced September release in order to company wants to make sure the final product is as polished as possible. Managing Director James Seaman added: “We wanted to be on the safe side and did not want to compromise the... potential of this great game. The last few weeks of development have opened up many new options regarding graphics and game play and we want to realize these in a time frame that is stress free.” - The latest updates on Gamasutra sister weblog GameSetWatch include a reminder for the GameSetCompetition contest for Dead Rising, an Arizona art exhibition by Parappa co-creator Rodney Alan Greenblat, and info on some high-end holographic technology. - Also updated today: Product news concerning the release of MobileDragon 1.0 beta1, Torque X announced For XNA, and MGS titles to use Wwise, as well as the latest Gamasutra job postings, featuring openings from Activision / Infinity Ward, Amaze Entertainment, Blizzard Entertainment, Gameloft, and Sony Computer Entertainment America.
