Today's round up includes news of a documentary by Bungie on the making of the Halo 3
E3 trailer, Hideo Kojima stepping away from Metal Gear Solid
, and the results of an online poll concerning what next-generation console (or combination of consoles) individuals plan to purchase, as well as the latest GameSetWatch posts, product news, Serious Games Source news, and Gamasutra job postings.
- A post by Bungie's Frankie O'Conner on the company's website indicates that the developer is currently working on a documentary that will break down the creation of the trailer for Halo 3
, which was first unveiled to attendees at Microsoft's pre-E3 media briefing in May. According to Bungie, the upcoming film will illustrate the process and people that went into making the trailer, and while it won't include much in the way of new footage, it will feature new angles that have not been seen before. It is not currently known when the trailer will be released, or how it will be distributed. Halo 3
is currently scheduled to ship for the Xbox 360 sometime in 2007.
- Consumer website Computer and Video Games has reported that in an interview with gaming magazine PSM2, famed developer Hideo Kojima announced a few details concerning his studio's upcoming Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
for the PlayStation 3. The report indicated that Kojima explained more about the game's "Octo Cam" camouflage, which will allow Solid Snake's suit to "change form and color depending on his surroundings", and that this will happen automatically when he is standing still. In addition, the report also indicated that Kojima said in the interview with the magazine that Metal Gear Solid 4
would be his last game in the franchise, noting: “The series belongs to Konami and the fans, but I have the liberty to stop.”
- A new poll
posted by online weblog Joystiq has surveyed readers by stating "With a finite amount of entertainment dollars going to next-gen consoles, it could be argued that every extra dollar spent on a PS3 is one less being spent on another console like the Wii," and then asking what specific consoles or combinations of consoles readers anticipated purchasing once both the PlayStation 3 and Wii launch in November. Of the more than 30,000 voters, 44 percent identified the combination of the Xbox 360 and Wii as the combination they expected to purchase, echoing recent comments by Microsoft VP Peter Moore during E3 that consumers will buy an Xbox 360 and a Wii instead of a single PlayStation 3 for roughly the same price. Only 8 percent indicated that they would purchase a PlayStation 3 and Wii, while 28 percent noted that they would purchase just a Wii in the coming hardware generation. 6 percent of those surveyed indicated that they plan to purchase all three consoles.
