Today's round-up includes news on more Xbox Doom
, Rockstar's self-explanatory URL registration for GTA
patches, and a happy day at EA Tiburon for Governor Jeb Bush, as well as the latest product news and today's Gamasutra job postings.
- id Software has announced Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil
for the Xbox. Originally released as an expansion pack for the PC game with new levels and weapons, the title will be released as a standalone game on the Xbox this fall. The Xbox port will be developed by Nerve Software, standing in for Vicarious Visions, who handled the Xbox port of the original Doom 3
. The game will be playable at QuakeCon 2005, along with a hitherto unannounced multiplayer demo of id's upcoming Quake 4
- Rockstar Games is doing its part to combat the "Hot Coffee" hysteria by releasing a patch for the PC version of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
that removes the offending cutscenes. Those who have not already enabled the sex scene minigames can apply the patch to their existing installs of the game, while those who have already enabled the normally-inaccessible content must perform a fresh install to block off access to the "Hot Coffee" features. The patch is available from nomorehotcoffee.com
, for versions of the game released in all territories. For obvious reasons, no anti-coffee measures have been released for the Xbox or PlayStation 2 versions of the game.
- Florida Governor Jeb Bush received a special presentation of Madden NFL 2006
from EA Tiburon staff, as the development team demonstrated new features and aspects of the game at their Florida offices. The strangest part of the demonstration
came when the team showed Gov. Bush a specially-created video of the official in a football match against his brother, Pres. George W. Bush. The video showed the governor trampling over his presidential sibling in a successful end zone run; Gov. Bush later received DVD copies of the fantasy scenario, presumably for repeated home viewing.
